You know just how important hitting your daily calorie target is. That's why we're excited to announce our brand new tool: the Caloriot Calorie Calculator!
Now, you might be thinking, “Isn’t the internet already overflowing with calorie calculators?” You’re absolutely right! So, why did we decide to throw another one into the mix?
Well, here’s the thing: while other calculators do a great job, we wanted to create something seamless and integrated with your Caloriot experience. We understand that building a healthy menu often goes hand-in-hand with managing calorie intake, and we don’t want you to jump through hoops to find the right tools.
That's why our Calorie Calculator lives right within the menu planning process. When you're setting your goals, it's there waiting to help you estimate your daily calorie needs. No more switching tabs or searching the web – just quick, convenient guidance within Caloriot's familiar environment.
But what exactly does our Calorie Calculator offer?
It takes into account your gender, age, height, weight and activity level to provide a personalized calorie target.
Whether you want to maintain, lose, or gain weight, the calculator suggests different calorie ranges based on your chosen goal.
We always recommend consulting a healthcare professional or registered dietitian for personalized advice and to ensure safety.
Now, let’s dive into how we calculate your calorie target
Basal Metabolic Rate: BMR represents the minimum number of calories required for basic functions at rest, forming the baseline for energy consumption. To precisely determine BMR, we utilize the Mifflin-St Jeor equation, widely recognized as one of the most accurate methods in the field.
The formulas are for men:
BMR = (10 × weight in kg) + (6.25 × height in cm) – (5 × age in years) + 5
and for women:
BMR = (10 × weight in kg) + (6.25 × height in cm) – (5 × age in years) – 161
Physical Activity Adjustment: Acknowledging that you’re likely not spending all your time lounging on the couch (unless you are — no judgment!), we factor in your activity level to calculate your AMR (active metabolic rate). This adjustment accommodates the additional calories expended through physical exercise.
- Sedentary: AMR = BMR x 1.2
- Lightly active: AMR = BMR x 1.375
- Moderately active: AMR = BMR x 1.55
- Active: AMR = BMR x 1.725
- Very active: AMR = BMR x 1.9
Customized Goals: Ultimately, we provide you with three distinct objectives. Each objective is accompanied by a recommended calorie target.
- Lose weight: AMR - 500kcal
- Maintain weight: AMR
- Gain weight: AMR + 500kcal
These personalized calculations serve as a foundation for achieving your fitness and nutrition goals.
Remember, the Calorie Calculator is a starting point, not a gospel truth. Every body is different, and your specific needs might vary. That’s why we encourage you to consult a healthcare professional for personalized guidance and to ensure your calorie goals are safe and effective for you.
Even though we don't artificially limit the values displayed by the calculator, we never recommend less than 1200 kilocalories per day as this can be detrimental to your health. We believe that values below 1200 kcal, while safe for some people, can lead to malnourishment for others.
So, the next time you're building your menu on Caloriot and wondering about your calorie target, give our new tool a try! It's convenient, personalized, and designed to keep you on track towards your health and fitness goals.
We hope you find the Caloriot Calorie Calculator a valuable addition to your healthy lifestyle journey! Let us know what you think and what other features you'd like to see in the future.
